This was my Ram Air III. This car was fast! I remember hitting 130+ by the end of an interstate on ramp! Then one day, headed up to Newfound Gap (in the Smoky Mtn National Park) the oil pump decided to explode. After rolling back to Gatlinburg with no power steering or power brakes the car was towed back to Knoxville for a rebuild. I decided to add all Ram Air IV valve train including the camshaft. I installed the cam 4 degrees advanced. The car had a Edelbrock Torker intake, Holly 780 and headers and was a M22 4 speed with 3.73 gears. I autocrossed with Pirelli 215/60-15 tires!!! They didn't stand a chance. That's what you see in the autocross pictures below. No power (relatively speaking!) below 2800 rpm or so. But past that..... hold on. It was VERY fast. I never had it at a strip but it beat many cars that should have been faster. |
