BMW Event - 09/28/2003 5 Runs Today TOTAL RUNS ON TIRES: 34 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Nice event. The course was a little confusing compared to the SCCA events. LOTS of pointer cones. The first run group was totally lost, probably a lot of people that have little experience driving in an autocross. They finally gave the other groups a parade lap, I liked that. Anyway, my car did well despite the problems it had. My first run I dropped it down to first gear as usual and started off. It shifted to second very early all by itself. Then it downshifed all by itself, upshifted, downshifted, back and forth. WEIRD! I took Tommy for a ride for my second lap and he's saying "what in the world...?" Same thing I was saying. Finally for my last 4 runs I just left it in drive and it was fine. Of course, drive is not the fastest way around the course. More often than not, I'm not in the right gear at the right time which will hurt. I also noticed on my second through fifth runs my brakes were basically non-existant. I had those replaced with Hawk HPS Plus pads and new fluid this week, what a difference!!!! Anyway, I was very please with most of my performance except where I needed brakes and didn't have them. I over cooked those portions. Had I had the brakes I have now, my times would have been much better. Ryan Thompson came up to me afterwards and told me he thought I might have had the best line of anyone through the very tight area after the first slalom and I did feel like I was flying through there. So far (10/04/03) the BMW guys haven't posted the times but my fastest was a 47.032. I know Tommy had a 46.2xx which might have been close to the fastest time out there. So we'll see once the results were posted. I took my car up the street to the car wash and the guy that runs the place owns several BMW's that he track races with and he said "I hear you kicked ass last weekend" so someone thought I did well!! We'll see!!! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
