Atlanta SCCA Event #8 - 10/05/2003 8 Runs Total 4 ESP 4 TO TOTAL RUNS ON TIRES: 42 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- First time at the Georgia International Convention Center. It was a small lot (33-50 second times) but at least it was a smooth surface. I drove both morning and afternoon but the car stuck much better in the morning for some reason. I thought I did pretty well considering I still have no control over my transmission. I have to walk a fine line between not enough throttle or too much when it suddenly downshifts. I just have to get that fixed, warranty or not. I believe I had the 4th fastest time (34.543)during the morning session (my class). Run 1-35.603, Run 2-34.543, Run 3-34.398+1, Run 4-44.950+1 I had a 34.398 with a really stupid cone that I hit on the slowest and tightest part of the course. "Stay close to the cones" I'm thinking. Yea, but not that close. I really think that had I had better transmission control I could have been in the 33's, but of course, we'll never know. Rich Shafer's CP Trans Am was fastest (33.658) in the morning with Tommy close behind (34.288). The course seemed to get a lot of grit and dirt on it and if you got off the racing line, watch out. I lost it once on the back part of the course in the afternoon but it seemed like quite a few others did too. In the afternoon for my time only runs I started out with: Run 1-34.910, Run 2-34.753, Run 3-34.651+1, and Run 4-34.730 but I never could touch my morning runs. At least I was pretty consistant. Everyones times were close, one, due to how short the course was, two, it was a pretty tight course, and because the line was very well defined, there wasn't much room for creativity or horsepower. Shawn came down from Athens and got some really good videos, from inside and outside the car, both mine and Rich's and one of Tommy's. We both rode in Rich's TA (600+hp). What an awesome ride. I hope he makes it back to the next event. I use to race against Rich more than 11 years ago with my CP car. Times are in!!!! I still believe I could have dropped .5 second if I had full shifting control. That would have made my PAX time drop to 3rd. 00.73 seconds off my time would have put me in first or a raw 33.65. OR only .45 seconds from second place. So I'm still searching on how to drop almost a second off my time. A Torsen T2R and another 75-100hp would really help!! I guess it's time for a little engine work after all. Still have plenty of things to spend my non-existant money on. Still, this time I PAX'd 12th with the 11th fastest time, last time I PAX'd 13th with the 9th fastest time. So I getting the PAX rank and raw rank (sounds nasty...) closer. As long as my PAX time keeps dropping, everything else will follow. I just have to get this thing shifting correctly. I got a little closer to Tommy this time (.255 seconds away!) but part of that is the shortness of the course, he'd be further ahead on a longer course. I did out PAX'd Rich's 28.710 to my 28.533!! Some consolation though!! :-) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
